Leontopodium Nivale or Anaphalis Javanica is commonly called as Edelweiss flower in Indonesia, is a mountain flower which easily finds by the mountaineers. There are a lot of unique facts about Edelweiss flowers that are rarely known by people, especially the climbers. Most people only know that Edelweiss flowers just the myth's symbol of eternal love. By the way, it such a good idea to give this flower to your beloved, isn’t it?

1. Edelweiss
discovered by the German naturalist.
A naturalist from German named Georg Karl Reinwardt discovered Edelweiss flowers for the first time. He found them in 1819 on the slopes of Gede's Mountain.
2. Origin of the name "Edelweiss".
The name 'Edelweiss' comes from the German language. 'Edel' means noble and 'Weiss' means white, according to the colors of it.
3. Edelweiss became endangered.
Amount of Edelweiss flowers were stolen and picked up from their native habitat by the irresponsible hands because of their nickname eternal flowers. The nickname eternal flower is derived from the presence of hormones that prevent flower loss. With these hormones, Edelweiss can bloom for up to 10 years.
4. Edelweiss bloom only when the rainy season.
Edelweiss usually bloom from April to August each year, especially when the rainy season has ended and blooms perfectly from July to August.
5. Edelweiss also can be found in some of Indonesia’s mountainous area
Edelweiss can be found on Gede Mountain, Merbabu Mountain, Bromo Mountain, etc. Edelweiss cultivation is commonly sold as a souvenir, one of which is at Mount Bromo. Sometimes, a dry Edelweiss can decorate the rooms or be a unique bouquet for weddings.
6. The scientific name of Edelweiss in Indonesia and abroad are different
The abroad perennial's Edelweiss flower is Leontopodium nivale and Indonesian's Edelweiss is Anaphalis Javanica.
7. Edelweiss flowers have been made into the national flower of Austria.
The Edelweiss is referred to by Leontopodium alpinum is one of the best-known European mountain flowers.
8. Altitude of Edelweiss.
Almost 5 feet [8 m] tall, Edelweiss generally has a three-foot-high [1 m] trunk. But in certain conditions, these plants can reach a height of 8 meters.
9. Flower extract is known as a cure for various diseases.
The diseases such as diphtheria, tuberculosis, cough, even breast cancer can be cure by drinking the extract of this flower.
10. Edelweiss has benefits for beauty.
Researchers have discovered that extracts of Edelweiss flowers contain a large number of antioxidants, anti-microbes (killing bacteria and fungi) and anti-inflammatory properties. It also has a very good protective nature to enhance the youthfulness of skin cells and keep the skin fresh and young by way of destroying harmful free radicals.
Edelweiss is a special flower that has a lot of unique facts. Edelweiss take quite long time to grow and bloom, so keep their habitat. This beautiful flower is a symbol of mountain because they cannot be found and grow anywhere else. Edelweiss are beautiful, let them beautifully bloom and blown away.
